Lieberman, as a Member of the Israeli Parliament, contributed to the legitimisation of deliberate attacks against the civilian population with the rhetoric that ‘there are no innocent people in the Gaza Strip’, supported systematic policies of persecution against identifiable groups, and advocated the imposition of living conditions that would lead to the physical destruction of the Palestinian people, in violation of his obligations to protect civilians and respect fundamental human rights during armed conflict.
